Our History

Hitachi Computer Products of America Inc (HICAM) has a rich history that dates to 1987.  As a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd, one of Japan’s largest and most respected companies, HICAM played a significant role in introducing innovative storage solutions to North America.

Early years

Founded in 1987 in Norman, Oklahoma Hitachi Computer Products of America Inc shipped the first shipment of products manufactured in North America.  The original building was 78,000 ft2 and included our 1st Printed Circuit Board Assembly and Test line, and a Class 1000 clean room.

Expansion

In 1990 we expanded and added an additional 84,000 ft2 for a total of 162,000 ft2 which included additional Printed Circuit Board Assembly and Test lines, and PCBA repair.  We also initiated our ISO Certification series.

Merging with Hitachi Data Systems

In 2007 HICAM became a subsidiary of Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), another subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd.  And in 2010 we expanded our facility with an additional 196,208 ft2 for a total of 358,208 ft2 to relocate the HDS Distribution Center from Indiana to Oklahoma.  With this relocation we became the first combined manufacturing and distribution center in the Hitachi Data Systems Network and became known as the International Supply Chain Center (ISCC).

Becoming Hitachi Vantara

In 2017 HDS merged with two other Hitachi subsidiaries and the resulting entity was called Hitachi Vantara, a global leader in data integration, storage, and analytics solutions.  HICAM continued as a subsidiary of Hitachi Vantara providing innovative manufacturing capabilities and resources.  Finally, in 2025 Hitachi Computer Products of America rebranded by changing our name to Hitachi Vantara Manufacturing.

We have undergone significant transformations over the years, from our roots with Hitachi Ltd to today as Hitachi Vantara Manufacturing.  Throughout this journey, we have remained dedicated to delivering innovative solutions and to our core values of Harmony – work to achieve a spirit of teamwork, mutual trust and respect, Sincerity – perform with heartfelt commitment to achieving excellence, and Pioneering Spirit – take the initiative to overcome obstacles and create innovative solutions.
